Mussels à la Buzara

The Bay of Šibenik is famous for its tradition of mussel farming, with one of the most common mussel dishes cooked ‘à la buzara’. This delicacy is an excellent example of an undemanding and quickly prepared tasty meal. Try the simple mussel recipe that will leave you amazed!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 kg mussels
  • 100 ml olive oil
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • 100 g garlic
  • 350 ml white wine
  • 20 g breadcrumbs
  • Tomato, optional
  • Pepper, optional

Preparation:

Clean the mussels and wash thoroughly in cold water. Mussels with cracked shells and all those that do not close after you knock on them are dead and should be discarded. Heat the olive oil in a pan and fry finely chopped garlic and, optionally, the diced tomato. Add the cleaned mussels.

Once the mussels have opened, pour in the wine and bring to a boil. When the mussels are done, take them out and thicken the sauce with breadcrumbs. Put the mussels back in and sprinkle them with chopped parsley. Season with pepper as needed. Drizzle with olive oil and serve with a side dish of your choice.
